Research Summary

Karina Heim has worked at the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve for seven years. As the Coastal Training Program (CTP) Coordinator, she watches to see where there are persistent land and water challenges facing local communities and then, with many collaborators, develops learning events and supports that help decision makers take informed and inspired actions to protect the local coastal system. Focal areas for the Coastal Training Program range from land and water caretaking issues such as culturally-informed shoreline restoration and cyanobacterial bloom awareness and response, to professionals skills learning in science communication, analysis, and community engagement practice.
