Research Summary
I am a grassland ecologist working to understand and transform the configuration, composition, and management of the grassland biome of the upper Midwest from its current state -- dominated by annual grain crops to support confined livestock and gas tanks -- to a new state dominated by grasslands profitably and adaptively grazed by livestock for clean surface and ground water, more stable climate, flood reduction, healthy soil, and biodiversity. This is Grassland 2.0! -- agroecosystems that provide for us today, while building capacity for future generations to do the same.
