Research Summary
Becky Larson is a professor and extension specialist within the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As a biowaste engineer, her research interests include all areas of biological waste. The main component of her work focuses on increasing sustainability of food waste and livestock manure systems to reduce environmental impact while maintaining profitability. Specific areas of research include manure management systems; handling and treatment of food and agricultural waste; agricultural sustainability; land application of manure and waste streams, including runoff, leaching, and emissions; manure processing technologies, including biogas production from anaerobic digestion; and composting.
