In Collaboration with Erin Mcfarlane, Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator, Extension Lakes, College of Natural Resources
16 x 20 inches
At the beginning of this project, I didn’t know where to start. There are so many aspects of water that it was impossible to include them all. My water specialist, Erin McFarlane, works with Wisconsin’s invasive species and taught me how they are affecting our lakes. I was struck by how big companies or people can sometimes mislead the American people into thinking everything is okay and that the state of our environment is perfect. However, there are many problems: oil spills, direct and indirect pollution, an uptick in invasive species, and more. In my oil painting, I wanted to capture the idea of silenced pollution and unmitigated invasive species in our waterways.

ABOUT THE WATER PARTNER
As the statewide Clean Boats, Clean Waters Educator, Erin McFarlane assists Wisconsin communities in preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species and supports watercraft inspection efforts across the state. Her adventures while growing up in East Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains led to a Master’s degree in Natural Resources from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a passion for environmental protection. By supporting CBCW participants and the Wisconsin Lakes Partnership, Erin works to engage the public in preserving Wisconsin’s waterbodies for future generations.
