16″ x 20″ Acrylic on canvas In Collaboration with Abby Dremel, Chemist, UW-Stevens Point
I was inspired by the beauty of water and importance of marshlands. It is not well known, but water is often required for acrylic paint, and by using the inspiration as a physical tool, I was able to capture some of the beauty and give a piece to the viewer. I took advantage of water’s natural properties equal with the paint, representing the harmony it shares in the real world and the careful balance it takes. I used many layers, light washes of color, and allowed the water to take the paint where it wanted, working evenly. It’s a gentle dance that truly allowed me to capture the playfulness and beauty in every way possible, using the process to represent the delicacy it takes to keep our land even.
Art for me is a strive for connection; whether it be charcoal from burned fauna, paints found from the earth, or music that we cannot see. My art is a piece of my mind gifted to the viewer in flowing paint strokes and erased graphite, beauty I have seen that I hope to share with the world; to let my perspective blend with the viewers interpretation. The earth gives endlessly, and I will use it to give back in the way I know how.
