Climate, People and the Environment Program Seminar: A Paleoclimate Perspective on Large-scale Climate Dynamics

October 1, 2019 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Speaker: Valerie Trouet, Associate Professor, Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research, University of Arizona

Abstract:
I will present two studies in which we used tree-ring data to reconstruct long-term variability in (1) jet stream position and (2) the extent of the Northern Hemisphere tropical belt. I will discuss what our reconstructions tell us about past variability in these climate patterns, how they are linked to ecosystem and human history, and why this information is important for future climate research.
