Flow-State

Local Wisconsin clay, sculpture clay, glass, and wood

Will Hare, University of Wisconsin-Platteville

In Collaboration with Dr. Kristopher Wright, Department of Biology, University of Wisconsin-Platteville

Flow-State is a collaboration between water specialist Dr. Kristopher Wright, and Will Hare at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. This piece was constructed using local clays, repurposed blue glass, wood, and over 150 pounds of personally made sculpture clay. Found rocks from the driftless region were used to form the rivers, lakes and valleys. The piece was covered with a local clay wash to provide depth and color. Lake Michigan clay deposits can also be found along the east boarder of the state. These local clays are captured segments of life immortalized in a ceramic sculpture, connecting the people of Wisconsin forever.

“This was such a cool experience. Melding science and art illustrates that creativity and interpretation are inherent aspects of both practices.” Dr. Wright
