Repetition by Anna Bartz

Repetition illustrates both how water was the underlying theme in the shaping of Schmeeckle Reserve and how it continues to be a driving force behind Schmeeckle’s mission to foster a community of research, recreation, and refuge.

Focusing on the gem of the reserve, Lake Joanis, the contours of the twelve individual watercolor pieces align to form an aerial view of the beloved body of water. Each row of squares depicts one of the three avenues in which Schmeeckle Reserve is connected to water. The top row portrays refuge, followed by recreation in the middle, and finally research on the bottom.

“Working with a water partner who shares my love for Schmeeckle Reserve was the highlight of the Flow Project for me. It was so rewarding to learn more about the role of water in the nature reserve and has given me an even deeper appreciation for Schmeeckle and all of the people who devote their time to its upkeep.”  Bartz
