Fluid Pathways: A Water Inspired BrainDance
15 Minutes
Dance, Creative Writing, & Improvisation
In Collaboration with Holly Baseman, Director for the Geneva Lake Environmental Agency
Fluid Pathways explores an improvisational movement score inspired by the BrainDance, a foundational practice developed by Anne Green Gilbert to warm up and integrate the body through developmental movement patterns. Dancers move through sequences such as breath, tactical touch, core-distal, head-tail, cross-lateral, and vestibular stimulation to gradually connect the body. Evelyn wrote the script and guided six UW-Madison Dance majors through the water-based imagery. It allows the dancers to embody fluidity, resistance, and flow. This process-centered work while emphasizing dancer individuality. The impact of imagery creates an evolving and captivating improvised performance. I hope you enjoy watching how words and images about water manifest into movement.
