Water Colors & Colored Pencil

In Collaboration with Dr. Brandon Gerig, Assistant Professor in the School of Freshwater Sciences at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee

My piece is an illustration of a sturgeon in its freshwater home. I am typically a digital artist so I was excited to dive back into a traditional art process. This piece was crafted by carefully cutting and layering several watercolor paintings over each other to create depth. Inspired by shadowboxes I saw in my previous school’s year end gallery and wondered if the floating layers of paper could mimic water.
